How to Configure Remote syslogd on RedHat/CentOS

Edit /etc/sysconfig/syslog. Add “-r” to the SYSLOGD_OPTIONS line:

SYSLOGD_OPTIONS=”-m 0 -r -x”
service syslog restart

Verify that syslogd is listening on port 514 using netstat:
$ sudo netstat –anp | grep 514

Also make sure your firewall permits udp 514 to connect to your server

for testing:

Client side:
$ logger try

Syslog server side:
$ sudo tail -f /var/log/messages
